LUXEMBOURG PAVILION 16TH INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURE EXHIBITION – LA BIENNALE DI VENEZIA

THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE COMMON GROUND

The Luxembourg Pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia opened its doors on 24 May 2018 to the public. Located for the first time at the Sale d’Armi of the Arsenale, the pavilion and its exhibition “The Architecture of the Common Ground” were crowned by success.

The Luxembourg Pavilion counted more than 11.000 visitors during the first ten days – exceeding by far the number of visitors of the previous exhibitions held at the Ca’ del Duca (6200 in 2016 during the entire duration of the exhibition). While the new location of the pavilion certainly contributes to the high number of visitors, other reasons include the relevance of the topic “Bodenfrage”, the proactive communication and the publication of a feature in ARCH+. The pavilion and the exhibition received public and critical acclaim as reflected in visitor’s statements such as “impressive” or “one of the best pavilions I have seen so far” or press reviews by national as well as international media, highlighting especially the political interpretation of the Biennale Architettura 2018 theme “Freespace”.

Besides the Luxembourg Prime Minister, Minister of Culture Xavier Bettel, the Luxembourg Minister of Finance Pierre Gramegna and the Luxembourg Secretary of State for Culture Guy Arendt, the Luxembourg Pavilion was also visited by delegates and officials of La Biennale di Venezia as well as of other countries, among them the president of La Biennale di Venezia Paolo Baratta, the President of Switzerland Alain Berset the Latvian Minister of Culture Dace Melbārde.
