CITIES WITHIN THE CITY LEON KRIER (LU)

LUCA Lectures

Lecture given by Leon Krier,

as part of the lecture spring cycle
THIS WILL FEED THAT

After Jan De Wylder, Gideon Boie and their CARITAS project, CRIT. / Peter Swinnen and his Belgian House, the LUCA Luxembourg Center for Architecture and the Master in Architecture of the University of Luxembourg are pleased to invite you at the conference of the Luxembourgish architect, urban planner, architectural theorist and writer, Leon Krier.

In the years 1974-78 Leon Krier elaborated for his lecturing and design courses at the AA in London a theory of modern traditional urbanism and architecture. The corpus of ideas, expressed in a series of widely published texts and projects, combined a critique of modernism and an operative theory for the Protection and Recon-struction of the Traditional European City. Through his counter-project “Luxembourg, Capital of Europe” (1978), Krier demonstrated in a didactic fashion, how the seemingly unstoppable phenomenon of functional zoning and suburbanization is reverted by The Polycentric City Model.

In its international series LUCA LECTURES successfully running since 1995, LUCA Luxembourg Center for Architecture organises a cycle of four international lectures entitled THIS WILL FEED THAT, in collaboration with the Master in Architecture of the University of Luxembourg. From February to May 2019, this cycle focuses on architecture’s impact on the urban tissue and development and presents a few purposefully chosen projects. Each of the four planned lectures is devoted to one architect and one project.
