Through this document, we want to address ourselves to the mayors of small and medium size municipalities, often less equiped and advised, and somewhat unprepared in front of the challenge of sustainable developement that is to be translated into actions. We initially consulted mayors and planning services in alrge cities like Montpellier, Bordeaux; Mulhouse - whom we especially thank- in order to see how their studies, tools and practices were transferable to smaller communities.

Icam is the international organisation for architecture museums and an organisation of architectural museums, centres and collections. It is dedicated to fostering links between all those interested in promoting the better understanding of architecture.

Arkki School of Architecture for Children and Youth organised an international conference "Creating the Future" September 3-4 2009. on architectural and design education for young people with "Ampiainen" as a co-organiser. in this publication the conference speakers and workshop hosts from different countries present concrete methods for approaching architecture together with people of different ages, as well as discuss the position of architectural education of young people in society.
